Music to Write To…

August 31st, 2009

One of my biggest inspirations has been music. Growing up in the Bronx, there was no escaping it. KRS-One blasting in a crunchy old Honda with brand new speakers…Marc Anthony blasting out of an old lady’s window in 95 degree heat…Pearl Jam rocking out of my old Aiwa speakers…

Whenever my house isn’t playing music I think it’s safe to say that things feel out of place.

I’ll spare you the cliches…I will, however, share with you some music that I really, really love…

Explosions in the Sky

An instrumental “post-rock” group out of Austin, TX. You might have heard some of their music on Friday Night Lights (the movie and TV show) and, I think, a Cadillac commercial. I met these guys once before a show right after 9/11 in New York City. They were the nicest people and we talked about how vulnerable the country was at that time…I’ll never forget how awesome it was to hear “The Moon is Down” that night…amazing. Now, whenever I am copywriting, I have to hear one of their songs…that’s not the most memorable moment for me though…

A few days Lucas was just born, I held his tiny little 6lb body in my arms and swayed to “Your Hand in Mine.” I cried so much…

I DARE you to try and listen to that song without being moved…it’s impossible…

They’re also a helluva live act too…here’s another of my faves from them “The Catastrophe & the Cure”….enjoy…

Why Having Unique Content for your site is important

August 29th, 2009

Having unique content on your site gives your business a greater chance getting on the first page of Google, Yahoo and Bing. Hiring a copywriter that constantly creates new and interesting content for your site can also ensure that your business has a better chance of staying on top as well.

But, what makes up unique content? While I could go on and on about this subject, I think the guys at SEOmoz do a much better job breaking it down why unique seo content is a critical part of having a sustainable and lead generating website…

Hey there!

Needless to say, this site will be completely dedicated to web writing and SEO.

As I continue to tweak this site, feel free to contact me with general questions. Or, if you’re looking to hire a web writer for your Florida business and want to get a price quote, that’s cool too. Just visit my Contact page and shoot me a quick email.

In the meantime, I hope you’re having a great day.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Keeping SEO Simple

August 7th, 2009

One rule that I try to follow is the KISS rule. Basically, if you haven’t heard of it, KISS stands for Keep-It-Simple-Stupid.

Sometimes I fail miserably at following that rule, but when it comes to SEO, I try very hard not to overwhelm my clients with jargon, code, and terms that make any one’s eyes glaze over.

If anyone asks me for details, I’d definitely help them out, but for the most part, as an SEO copy writer, I try to stick to what I do best, writing relevant content that will drive traffic with qualified leads. Obviously, the more qualified leads that contact you, the better chance you have of landing a sale, or becoming that resource that you want to become.

In order to do this one thing must happen before anything else:

You must have substantive content that focuses on a few keywords that are relevant to your unique business!

One example of this is wikipedia. Type in any term into Google and, more often than not, a wikipedia page will be on the first page. Why?

Content, content, content…..and MORE content!

Wikipedia is constantly expanding, growing, and in the eyes of Google, updated and, therefore, important (I’ll try and write a post on this soon…).

Ultimately, your site needs new and relevant content in order to either rise to, or remain on, the first page of Google.

More to come soon!

Why hiring a blog writer is a good idea

August 7th, 2009

Having a blog is a critical aspect of SEO. Many of your competitors may have a blog. Some are using it with great results. Others haven’t updated it in months, maybe longer.

If you have a blog that’s gathering dust, or if you’d like to start up a new one, then hiring a blog writer is a great idea.

Why?

Well, one of the main reasons that people fail to maximize their blog’s full money-making potential is because they:

  1. Don’t have the time to update their blog
  2. Bang their head against the wall because they run out of ideas
  3. They’re just not confident writers
  4. They don’t understand how a blog can both positively and negatively affect a person’s business

That last point is critical. Setting up a blog and making sure that it’s filled with relevant content is absolutely critical. This is where hiring a competent blog writer is a good idea.

How do you know you’re working with a good writer?

Listen to the questions they ask. For instance…if they don’t even care to ask, “Can you tell me what you, or your best salesperson does to land a sale?” or, “If you were looking for your business online, what would you search for?” then, you may not be talking to someone who will do a good job for you.

Needless to say, if the web copywriter that you are considering DOES ask those questions, then you know you’re talking to someone who understands SEO and what it takes to get your blog, and your business higher rankings in Google.
